MaHIMA/ACDIS/NYHIMA are coming together to offer our 5th annual collaboration virtually on Friday, October 21, 2022 from 8am to 12pm EST. 
This registration is free and 4 CEUs will be granted for attendance.

Presentation 1: 8:00am EST
Title:   Ambulatory and Risk Adjustment focusing on Outpatient capture of HCC and SDOH codes, diagnosis queried and OP CDI programs

Title:  AHRQ Patient Safety Indicators and its Risk Adjustment (Elixhauser) – What’s In, What’s Out, What’s About.
Presenters: Keisha Downes BSN, RN, CCDS, CCS, Director of Clinical Documentation Integrity, Tufts Medicine and James Kennedy, MD, President - CDIMD – Physician Champions

Summary:  While CMS has paused the use of the AHRQ Patient Safety Indicator (PSI) Composite Score (PSI 90) for its Hospital Acquired Conditions algorithm for FY2023, they and others (e.g., Leapfrog) will continue to report individual hospital performance on their respective website that impacts facility reputations and public perceptions of hospital and physician quality.  This lecture will outline a deep dive into what AHRQ PSIs are, how there are calculated, what includes and excludes each measure, and, very importantly, how they risk-adjust patient characteristics using the Elixhauser model and other factors as to ensure equity.  Aspects of the lecture will include:

1.       Foundations of the AHRQ PSIs and what impact they have on hospital reputations and reimbursements

2.  Fundamentals of “front end” metrics, such as the encounter priority and point of origin, affecting PSI inclusions, exclusions, and risk adjustment

3.  Concepts in coding conventions, guidelines, and advice affecting individual high impact PSIs with an emphasis on recent changes for FY2022

4. A primer on PSI risk-adjustment with an emphasis on Elixhauser model concepts 

5.  Suggestions on proactive CDI implementation strategies that include preoperative risk assessments, concurrent and pre-bill review opportunities, medical informatics, and data analytics

Familiarization with the AHRQ PSI website, available at https://qualityindicators.ahrq.gov/measures/psi_resources, is strongly recommended as to attain the most benefit from the presentation.

Title: Steering and Leadership Data:   Structure for Continued Support and Engagement
Presenters:  Jennifer Cavagnac, Assistant Director of CDI and Coding for Baystate Health and Shannon Hall, RN, Lead, CDI team of 24 MDs/RNs at Baystate Health.  Moderator:  Walter Houlihan, Senior Director, Health Information/Clinical Documentation at Baystate Health
Summary:  This presentation will focus on managing the remote workforce, addressing challenges and best practices.

Upon completion this session will receive 4 CEUs which will be sent via email; if you cannot attend the session live please do not register for this session.  You will have immediate access to the session on our LMS for free as well after the session is posted.  It will be posted by Friday, October 28, 2022.
